Home buyers in Colchester could soon see local landmarks appear on its very own Monopoly board, as the town has been shortlisted to win its own edition and is currently leading with 31.2 per cent of the public vote. Essex’s oldest recorded town could be on the iconic board, alongside the likes of Mayfair and Piccadilly Circus, which is great timing for Bellway’s latest development in Colchester that launches a range of new house designs this week. Instead of being ‘sent to Southend’, a new possible Chance playing card move, those looking to take a leap onto the real property ladder could look to the Avellana Place development on Ipswich Road.

Housebuilder, Bellway Homes has released new house types including two to four bedroom homes. Gemma Bannister, Divisional Sales Manager at Bellway Essex comments: “Colchester is already an extremely popular place to live and our new homes at Avellana Place offer affordable living in a location with extensive transport links. During the first launch of homes, buyers snapped our homes up quickly so it is great to be able to offer a further selection of properties that will meet this demand. We are sure the homes here will be attractive for both first-time buyers making their first step onto the property ladder and those wanting to increase their living space at affordable prices.

Gemma continues: “Colchester has a bustling town centre that makes it an exciting prospect for young professionals who want somewhere affordable, and its landmarks could soon be on its own Monopoly board too.”

A great first-time property is The Montrose, a two-bedroom home with open plan living and dining room, a separate kitchen fitted with modern appliances and two spacious first floor bedrooms and a contemporary designed bathroom. For second or third steppers wanting to buy a larger home, the Churchill offers four bedrooms with an open-plan kitchen, dining and family area, with a separate living room and study. On the first floor the master bedroom benefits from fitted wardrobes and en suite, while remaining three bedrooms are served by the family bathroom.

These contemporary homes are ideally located with everything a resident could need within easy reach. Colchester United Football Club draws regular crowds, while Colchester Leisure World offers a range of sporting opportunities. Shopaholics are also well catered for, with an array of high street and independent boutiques lining the high street, as well as a large superstore for the weekly shop. Evening entertainment is easy to come by, with plenty of pubs and restaurants just a stone’s throw away, and three theatres for a range of shows from comedy to drama and dance.

Ideal for families, a number of good primary schools are less than five minutes from home, and The Gilberd School at secondary level is just a three-minute drive away. Colchester Royal Grammar and Colchester County High School for Girls, two of the top performing grammar schools in the country, are both within 15 minutes of Avellana Place. For higher education, the University of Essex’s Colchester Campus is just south of the town centre.

Colchester station is less than 10 minutes from Avellana Place, from where journeys into London Liverpool Street take as little as 49 minutes. By road, the A12 is easily accessible for connections to London and the M25 for journeys further afield. Stansted Airport is also close by, just over 35 miles from the development.

Prices at Avellana Place start from £229,995 for a two-bedroom home to £434,995 for a four bed house. Help to Buy is also available on selected plots. For more information, visit bellway.co.uk.
