Essential advice for taxi drivers when buying a new car

11th April 2016 Print

Most people struggle to find a car that’s comfortable enough for their daily commute, constantly wondering whether the car will be robust enough, strong enough or economical enough to handle their needs. However, these commuters need to spare a thought for taxi drivers. If you’re a taxi driver who works round the clock, not only do you need your car to do all of the aforementioned, but you need to ensure you’ve got a vehicle that works around the clock as tirelessly as you do. Here are 3 of the best cars for taxi drivers:

#3 Skoda Octavia

It may not be the most stylish car available on the market, but it’s incredibly comfortable on long journeys/ shifts and is also spacious and classy.

One of the most practical cars available on the market, the Skoda has no problems carrying big loads and most versions are incredibly cheap to run, meaning that you can keep running costs low. Plus, Skoda have improved their image a lot in recent years, making Octavias quite desirable.

Available with a variety of powerful petrol and diesel engines, it’s relatively nippy, too. With a long warranty if you buy from new, you really can’t go far wrong with a Skoda Octavia and it’ll be good for years to come.

#2 VW Passat

When you buy a VW, you know exactly what you’re getting: engineering brilliance. The latest Passat, brought out in 2015, has improved on the older model in almost every conceivable way, too. This makes it the model of choice if you can afford to pay a little extra for it. It’s certainly not cheap, but its high-tech interior and sharp looks make it a fantastic buy.

#1 Ford Mondeo

But finally, at number one, it’s the Ford Mondeo. One of Britain’s favourite cars for years, you really cannot go wrong with a Mondeo of any age. Again, newer options with the chrome grille improve the external styling, but they’re large cars as well, meaning that you’ll never compromise on passenger space. When you add in the range of eco engines, they’re the perfect all-rounder for any taxi driver.

Of course, alternatively, you could buy a traditional black taxi which is custom-built for the job. These are widely available from places such as Cab Direct, and you can even buy a taxi straight from the factory if you wish. Ultimately, the car you choose has to be perfect for you, so do your research and ensure you take it on a comprehensive test drive – then you can’t go far wrong.
