Shifnal buyers in line for big savings on energy bills

As the weather turns colder, housebuilder Redrow is urging people to think about switching from old to new in Shifnal with the potential to shave hundreds of pounds off their annual energy bills.

Redrow has calculated energy-use and costs for three of its house styles: a four-bedroom detached home, a three-bedroom semi-detached and a three-bedroom mid-terrace property. It then compared costs to those for equivalent-sized Victorian homes with modern day improvements.

Results showed that a new four-bedroom home could save bill payers around £1,299 a year, while savings in a three-bedroom semi are around £915 and a three-bedroom terrace in the region of £709.

Based on these figures, energy cost savings on a four-bedroom home would add an extra £108 to the family purse every month. This could make for a welcome contribution to the mortgage payment or other household bills, it could buy around two tanks of fuel a month or could all add up to an extra family holiday every year.

Brand new Redrow homes at The Uplands in Shifnal are among those that offer potential savings for buyers who move from old to new.

Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), explains: “New-build homes are ideal for busy families who don’t want to spend time and money on the kind of repairs and renovations that an older property is likely to need.

“And at this time of year in particular, new-builds really do come into their own as people start to turn on their heating and think about how much they spend on energy bills. Our homes are packed with features designed to minimise energy use and maximise efficiency, with high quality insulation, double glazing, low-energy boilers and effective ventilation systems, as well as energy efficient lighting, included as standard in all our properties. It could make a huge difference when it comes to family budgeting.”

Current availability at The Uplands includes three and four-bedroom detached designs from the Arts & Crafts influenced Heritage Collection, priced from £314,995.

A three-bedroom Leamington, available from £349,995, is almost ready to move into.

Its external design embodies the architecture from the Arts & Crafts era, with traditional touches including a canopied porch, double-height bay window to the lounge and master bedroom and a circular feature window on the stairs.

A convivial open plan kitchen, dining and family room spans the width of the rear of the property and is complemented by a separate lounge. A utility and cloakroom complete the ground floor.

Upstairs, the master bedroom boasts an en-suite plus a walk-in wardrobe, leaving the main bathroom to serve the remaining two bedrooms.

Situated on Wolverhampton Road, on the edge of Shifnal, the new homes at The Uplands enjoy a rural outlook. The town centre is easily accessible; while Telford, Wolverhampton and Birmingham are also within easy reach by car.

Show homes at the development are open daily from 10am to 5.30pm. For more information, see
