We’re a few weeks away from the official start of spring and for many of us it’s that time of year when we start to dream about an exciting getaway. Over the last few years, particularly since the financial crisis, many Britons are opting for staycations and, increasingly, more of us are turning towards motorhomes as a great way to explore the UK with our families.

To get you in the holiday spirit, we’ve picked up on these top tips from Kent Motorhomes on the best places in the UK to visit with your motorhome.

Wing Hall, Rutland

This campsite, near Rutland Water, famous for its array of exciting watersports, boasts grounds of a stately home and is popular with adults and children alike. Visitors to the site talk fondly of the cycle routes so if you’re looking for an active getaway then there’s nothing better than tackling the routes created by Anglian Water. Nearby you’ll find the idyllic market towns of Oakham and Stamford, as well as Burghley Park, home to the renowned horse trials.

St. Austell, Cornwall

For years families have been flocking to the south-west peninsula of the UK so next time you think about taking your motorhome on the road, why not head south and check out the stunning views on offer in Cornwall? Glorious seas and great food await and there is even a coastal footpath that passes through the St. Austell campsite that leads directly to the picturesque fishing village of Gorran Haven, which boasts a child-friendly beach and plenty of amenities to enjoy.

Denstone, Staffordshire

A short distance away from one of the most popular theme parks in the UK, Alton Towers, a trip to Staffordshire in your vehicle is certainly set to be a hit with the kids.

Plan well in advance for this trip because there are only a certain number of pitches at the Denstone site but they all come with electric hook-up and recent modernisation work has meant that toilet, shower, basin, and baby changing facilities are now available. For added convenience, buses to Alton Towers leave at the bottom of the campsite on regular occasions during the holiday season.

Setley Ridge Vineyard, Hampshire

This family-run vineyard is a popular jaunt for holiday-makers in the UK and it welcomes motorhomes to its campsite each year.

Situated right in the heart of New Forest National Park, on the doorstep of popular attractions like The National Motor Museum, Dorset coastal resorts and Buckler’s Hard, Setley Ridge is the perfect location for family days out.

Kilchoan, Highlands

The location may be remote, and to travel there isn’t the easiest, but rest assured that it’s well worth the effort. Kilchoan is the most westerly campsite in the UK, over 50 miles from Fort William, and is part of a small working croft.

Again, plan well in advance for this one and make sure you’re stocked up for the journey. Once there you’ll be treated to breath-taking coastal views, tranquil remoteness and wildlife like otters, golden pine martens and golden eagles.
