Ensuring the safety of your customers, employees and other stakeholders should be of paramount importance to business leaders. Aside from the obvious reasons, having good security measures in your workplace can help you to build good relationships with your associates whilst also making your company seem more credible and reliable. It means you don’t lose money as a result of pilfering or stolen information.

One of the best ways to improve security in your workplace is by implementing an ID card system. Electronic ID card systems aren’t innovative tech; they have been around well over 30 years or so, and are constantly being adapted and introduced to new application.  But how exactly can such a small device effectively protect your company and stakeholders from security threats? Let’s find out.

1.) Authenticating Identities

It is important to make sure that only authorised personnel are on your business premises. But if you have no way to authenticate people’s identities, then anyone can wander in and potentially steal, cause damage or threaten the civilians within the work environment. Fortunately, ID cards can prevent this from happening. They provide definitive proof that the person is allowed to be in the workplace, as ID cards are typically only given to employees or visitors. If your business has its own ID card printer, you can easily create and distribute them. These smart pieces of tech also store information for multi-factor authentications, which add several layers of additional security to the workplace.

2.) Access Control

ID cards can also be used for access control in your workplace. This means only official personnel can enter the premises or certain rooms depending on their level of authority. For example, the door to an x-ray room in a hospital might be fitted with an ID card reader, so only those with the proper qualifications, right to enter and in possession of a corresponding key card can enter. You can also monitor who entered the premises and at what time with an ID card system. In the case of internal theft, this makes it easier to track down and, with the gathered evidence, penalise the culprit.

3.) Cashless Vending

One of the main difficulties that businesses face is having their money stolen from the tills and safes, either by disingenuous employees or crafty customers. Fortunately, contactless ID cards are driving forward the movement for cashless vending. Cashless vending is where you exchange money without physical coins or notes. Not only does this reduce the likelihood of lost or stolen cash, but also makes it much harder for criminals to steal from you.

4.) Application Processing

Finally, ID cards also help to regulate the use of certain applications in the workplace, thereby decreasing the likelihood of stock being pilfered or sensitive documents being stolen. For example, some businesses can easily integrate an ID card system into their computer network, so only those with the proper authorisation can log on. You could also use ID readers to control the workplace’s electricity, preventing anyone without an ID card from using the equipment.

These are the main ways that ID cards can improve security levels in the workplace. Despite appearing small and innocuous, these devices are a powerful form of technology, helping keep organisations and stakeholders safe across the world.
