Suzuki GB awards first NVQ qualifications

Twelve members of staff were today awarded their NVQ certificates by Suzuki GB PLC’s Managing Director for the Motorcycle, ATV and Marine divisions, Yasuharu Osawa, following the successful completion of the first ever formal qualification programme undertaken at the company’s headquarters in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.

The operatives, team leaders, and managers who participated in the nine-month course in association with Milton Keynes College, worked towards the level 2 and 3-grade qualifications in conjunction with their employment at Suzuki’s purpose-built 9,000m2 aftersales facility.

As part of the automaker’s ongoing commitment to learning and development, the opportunity to study for an NVQ certificate forms part of an overall strategy to increase the skills of the workforce through the Suzuki Academy, the company’s in-house training scheme. Suzuki is now looking at the next stage of the programme for those who gained their award in 2008.

Commenting on the programme, Andy Franks, Operations Manager of the Parts and Accessories Division, Suzuki GB explains: “The NVQ qualification provides a formal recognition of the achievement, hard work and dedication by staff which we witness on a daily basis, whilst also offering a comprehensive platform for their career progression within the business. We look forward to next year’s programme which is set to attract an even greater number of participants as our newly-introduced training initiative goes from strength to strength.”
