Podium hat trick for Relentless Suzuki MX at Landrake

7th July 2009 Print
Martin Barr The Relentless Suzuki MX team ended round five of the British Masters Championship, with a hat trick of podium finishes at the weekend, as the series went to its southernmost circuit at Landrake in Cornwall.

With Matt Burrows defending his lead of the MXY2 championship, the team's youngest rider had an eventful weekend, but still rode to a second place race result, taking second place overall too and extending his championship lead in the process.

With Scott Columb and Martin Barr contesting both MX1 and MX2 classes, it would be a day of both switching between their RM-Z250 and 450 machines. In MX2 Barr would lead the way, recovering from a small crash in race one to finish in fifth with Columb right behind in sixth. In the second race, Barr would again end with the advantage, but not before Columb passed the Irishman, moving into second place and challenging for the lead, before a damaged rear brake from an earlier incident saw the New Zealander drop back behind his teammate to finish in fifth, with Barr in third, both ending the day overall in the same positions.

With a switch to the RM-Z450's, fortunes would be reversed in MX1, with Columb riding the bike more familiar to him. Despite Barr getting the holeshot it would be Columb first home, finishing in second spot, one place ahead of his teammate. In race two, Columb would repeat his first race result, giving him second overall on the day. Sadly for Barr a previous leg injury would force him to drop down the order to 16th at the flag.

Team manager, Rob Hooper: "Another good day of racing, with all riders challenging for top positions. Martin in particular dug deep and his results are impressive considering how much treatment he underwent last week, in order to be able to ride. With some more treatment this week we fully expect him to be ready to challenge high up the order at next weekend's Maxxis British Championship round at Lyng."
