Championship progress for Barr at Foxhill

28th July 2009 Print
Martin Barr Round six of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship held at Foxhill in Wiltshire, proved to be a tough but positive weekend for the Relentless Suzuki MX team, with Martin Barr ending the day solidly to move one place higher in the series standings.

Qualifying a slightly disappointing seventh fastest, Barr would improve in the first MX2 race to come home in fifth place. Despite not being a huge fan of the Foxhill circuit, the RM-Z250 rider would challenge for the podium in race two, eventually settling for fourth place behind Zach Osbourne, to finish the day fourth overall and move up to fourth in the series standings.

Martin Barr: "In truth I'm not a huge fan of Foxhill and so it took me a while to get going. The first race was a little disappointing, but things felt much better in the second and we were challenging at the right end of the field. To come away higher up the series standings can only be positive and I'm just looking forward to getting to the next round in Scotland now."

In MX1, Scott Columb would have his work cut-out having only ever ridden at the track once before, some five years earlier. An encouraging eighth quickest in qualifying, became a disappointing thirteenth in race one, before digging deep in race two to cross the line in seventh.

Scott Columb: "This was always going to be a bogey round for me. I last rode here in 2004 on a 125 and didn't have great memories. Race one was tough and for me pretty disappointing, but I managed to improve in the second to take away some valuable points.

In the last round of the MXY2 category, Matt Burrow would continue his impressive form to end race one in fifth. An improved ride in the last race of the championship saw Burrow up to fourth place, before a puncture ended his hopes of a strong result, finishing the series in eighth place.

Team manager, Rob Hooper: "It's not been a walk in the park this weekend, but I think we can be pleased overall. Martin struggled early on, but managed to put up a decent challenge in the second race, to improve his championship position. For Scott it was always going to be a tough round and so his results are in truth about what we expected. Young Matt Burrows rode very well and the puncture in the second race was a real blow for him. We've all been extremely impressed by Matt's first year with us and we look forward to helping him flourish in the future."
