FIFA World Cup, Super Bowl LVI: What are the biggest sports events to take place in 2022?

For many, 2022 is a year that is huge within the sporting world!

Of course, we had a number of the biggest sporting events take place last year that perhaps would not have normally happened, such as the UEFA European Championships and the Tokyo Olympic Games, however this year is set to provide us with even more.

Naturally, there are a number of competitions to look forward to that happen on an annual basis, but these continue to remain some of the biggest events on the calendar each year, despite the fact that they continually appear.

So, what are some of the biggest events that are set to take place over the upcoming 12 months?

Super Bowl LVI

One of the events that takes place annually, there is still no denying that the Super Bowl is one of the biggest events to continue to appear on the sporting schedule.

Millions and millions of people all around the world continue to tune in to the American Football spectacle, with the Halftime Show perhaps being one of the highlights for many given the stars that traditionally perform.

The game will feature the two best teams from the NFL on Sunday, February 13, 2022, where they will both go into battle to be crowned Super Bowl champions at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Many will use the spectacle as an opportunity to place a wager on the game, with Unibet already providing punters with a number of great Super Bowl odds that they can take advantage of!

2022 Winter Olympics

We might have only just had the Summer Olympic Games last year due to the postponement that had been required, however February will also see the return of the Winter Olympic Games, which will feature a number of new sports for the very first time, thus making it one of the biggest sporting events on the schedule.

Athletes will head to Beijing, where there are a variety of different disciplines being competed over snow and ice with the competition commencing on February 4, 2022, and concluding on February 20, 2022.

UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League & UEFA Conference League Finals

Perhaps the highlight of the club football calendar, May 2022 will be one where we will be able to see which football teams are the best in Europe as the three competitions take place across the continent.

Naturally, the highlight of these will be the UEFA Champions League as many football fans will determine the winner of this competition as being the best football team in the world, and Chelsea will be hoping they can retain their title.

The Champions League final will be played at the Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg, Russia, on May 28, whilst the UEFA Europa League will be concluded at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, Seville, Spain at a slightly earlier date with May 18 penciled in.

Additionally, this season has seen the first year in which the UEFA Conference League has been competed in, and the final of this tournament will be slotted in between the two above, with the game to be played at the Arena Kombëtare in Tirana, Albania, on May 25.

FIFA World Cup 2022

Of course, we could never forget that the FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in 2022, although this edition of the competition will be one that is very different to how previous tournaments have happened.

The competition will take place in Qatar but will take place in the Winter, instead of being in its normal slot of the summer. This means fans will have to wait a little longer to see whether their country is able to win the biggest prize in football.

The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to kick off on November 21, 2022, with the Group Stages to begin proceedings before the Final itself ends the competition on December 18, 2022, thus giving football lovers almost a month of the best action possible!

Let’s not forget other sports

Naturally, there are a number of huge sporting events to take place all over the world and across various different disciplines, thus making it extremely hard to leave them all out without mentioning them.

Indeed, those that follow tennis will know that there are Grand Slams such as Wimbledon to take place, whilst those that follow golf closely will know that there are four Majors that will take place throughout the year.

2022 is certainly an exciting year for sports fans!
