8th September 2009 Print
Martin Barr The Whitby track in North Yorkshire played host to the final round of the Wulfsport British Masters Series at the weekend, with Relentless Suzuki MX team riders, Martin Barr, Scott Columb and youth rider Matt Burrows all riding to strong finishes.

Riding in both the MX2 and MX1 classes the day would be fast and furious for Barr and Columb, but it would be Barr the strongest of the pair, starting perfectly in MX2 with a win by over 15 seconds. The Irishman's dominance would continue in the second race, despite being pushed into the ropes at the start, the RM-Z250 rider would fight back to take the lead mid-race and again take a comfortable win. Columb would finish the MX2 class with a solid seventh overall.

In MX1, Barr looked set to continue his strong performance, taking the lead before a mistake saw the Irishman relegated to second place at the flag, eventually going on take the final podium position in the second MX1 race to end the series fourth in MX1 and in an impressive runner-up spot in the MX2 Championship. Columb would again ride to strong finishes taking sixth overall, ending the series in tenth.

But championship glory would be reserved for team youth rider Matt Burrows, who rode to two strong runner-up finishes to take the 2009 MXY2 Championship, with an impressive 195 point lead over nearest rival Ryan McLean.

Rob Hooper, team manager commented, “Im extremely pleased with Martin. He showed great race pace and consistency. Scott just wasn’t feeling comfortable all day, but his results were still strong. As for Matt, what a fantastic achievement. He's over-delivered this season and I believe he is capable of great things in the future. We're all very pleased for him."
