Top 5 things to do on a Val d'Isère ski trip

6th August 2024 Print

Val d'Isère is one of Europe’s largest and most prominent outdoor sports resorts, offering sensational skiing throughout the winter right up to April and May thanks to its high elevation and sheltered location. While the slopes are the main draw, there are many other things to do that will set your trip apart.

Explore the ski slopes

One of the major benefits of a Val d'Isère Tignes ski holiday is the variety of slopes available. Over 300km of snow-sure slopes extend across the picturesque Alps, with 20 greens, 67 blues, 41 reds and 26 blacks to suit everyone from beginners to experts.

There are also two snowparks where skiers and snowboarders can practise their tricks on an array of rails, boxes and walls.

Go on guided ski tours

Head off-piste to discover more stunning runs away from the crowds. The resort offers several guided ski tours of varying difficulty where you can combine cross-country skiing with thrilling downhill rides under the watchful eye of an expert.

This is suited to anyone reasonably skilled in standard skiing, across a range of fitness levels.

Tackle hiking trails

Bring some variety to your daily activities with hiking trails in the nearby mountains. 24km of clear and well-kept trails lead from the resort into the peaks to glorious viewpoints, some climbing as high as 2,500 metres above sea level.

If you want to tackle more challenging routes in remote areas, mountain professionals can guide you to glaciers and through the mysterious fir forests.

Enjoy the après-ski

Take time away from skiing without leaving the slopes with time on the terrace enjoying the après-ski scene. The combined Val d'Isère and Tignes area is renowned for having one of the liveliest in the Alps.

Eateries range from casual bars selling hearty food and drinks to party hotspots like La Folie Douce where guests dine on gourmet traditional favourites to a backdrop of pumping DJ decks and acrobatic performers. Whether you need a family-friendly place to enjoy lunch between runs or a club where you can dance until dawn, Val d'Isère has it in the après-ski.

Relax at the indoor facilities

Escape the outdoors for a few hours and relax at the indoor facilities. Go for a swim in one of the pools, play a few rounds of your favourite sports in one of the halls or head to a spa to indulge in a range of treatments to help you unwind mind and body.

There’s also an on-site cinema where you can watch the latest releases and a museum outlining the history of the area and its 150-year skiing legacy
