Quality award confirms world-class status of Leyland Trucks

8th January 2008 Print
Achievement by Leyland Trucks of one of the top quality standards in the global automotive industry has further consolidated its position as a world-class truck manufacturer.

Eighteen months of careful preparation lie behind the award of ISO/TS16949 status. The standard is unique to the automotive sector and the company was granted certification earlier this month following a comprehensive audit by Lloyds Register, the internationally-renowned independent quality systems assessors.

“Certification to ISO/TS16949 is clear evidence that we have in place quality systems and processes that are right up there with the best in the motor industry worldwide,” says Leyland Trucks’ managing director, Jim Sumner.

“Quality is at the heart of the competitive strategy of our parent company PACCAR and achieving this standard is aligned to that strategy. The ISO/TS16949 standard places every aspect of quality across our manufacturing operations under the closest scrutiny. It drives the most rigorous advanced product quality planning, requires stringent control of processes, and requires even higher levels of quality from our suppliers.

“I am very proud of the teamwork that lies behind the achievement of this standard. It was a long time in the planning and the audit was a tough test but one that we passed with flying colours. It provides a clear endorsement that a commitment to quality is embedded in the culture amongst all our 1200 employees.

“Customers for the 20,000 trucks that we build here at Leyland each year, wherever they’re located around the world, will recognise from this award the importance we attach to quality. And they will experience it daily in trucks that are well designed, well built, durable, reliable and productive.”
