Travellers plan even more trips for 2007
The number of trips abroad made by Brits in 2007 is expected to increase for the third conservative year, according to a survey by American Express Insurance Services.Overall a 3% rise is predicted in all UK and foreign trips, i.e. weekend breaks, holidays (more than five days) and business trips. However, leisure breaks saw the most significant rises. Holidaymakers are planning more weekend breaks – 11% more in the UK and 12% more abroad and for holidays and there is 3% increase in UK holidays planned and a 5% increase in foreign holidays.
Joanne Field, Marketing Manager, American Express Insurance Services: “Not only are Britons planning more trips both here and abroad, but they are booking more independently than last year.
“For any traveller, but particularly frequent or independent travellers where the cost of the insurance is not included in the tour package, buying annual insurance is not only cost effective, but it ensures they are protected for cancellation and curtailment from the moment they book a trip. It also allows them to capitalise on last minute deals knowing that they are protected.”
For the American Express survey respondents, whilst having a holiday was the top reason for taking a short break, visiting family and visiting friends were also key:-
Reason for Short Break by Number Taken
Holiday – 31%
Visiting Family – 25%
Visiting Friends – 19%
Business – 14%
Special Occasion e.g. wedding – 6%
Sporting Event – 4%
Health/Medical – 1%
American Express is currently running an offer on its Annual European Budget Insurance priced just £39 for adults and £69 for families until February 28th 2007.
