Margate the ‘new Marbella’ for 7.8 million UK holidaymakers
Worried UK citizens are deciding to holiday in the UK this year due to the impact on the environment.According to new figures released by Post Office Travel Insurance, more than one in ten people (13 per cent) said they were planning to take a holiday in the UK because it is more environmentally friendly than going abroad.
In findings which will please the organisers of British Tourism Week, the Post Office also found that over a third of people think Britain has lots to offer. When asked why they were planning to take a holiday in the UK, 39 per cent said that it was because there were so many great things about holidaying here.
Post Office head of travel Kevin McAdam said: “People are now more than ever making important lifestyle decisions based on their knowledge and understanding of environmental issues. As a result, many travellers are planning to make the most of the UK’s holiday spots.
“Our advice is that the travel industry will have to wake up to the fact that Margate could be the new Marbella.”
