American Express launches Gap Insurance
American Express Insurance Services has launched Gap Insurance online for those taking career breaks or students travelling between studies. The cover is available from the American Express website americanexpress.co.uk/ti. Those purchasing on-line enjoy a 5% price saving.
Joanne Field, Marketing Manager, American Express Insurance Services: “The Foreign Office’s comments underline that whilst organising insurance may not be the most exciting element of planning a gap break it is one of the most important. Not all policies are the same and it really pays to do some research rather than just opting for the cheapest policy available.”
Annual travel insurance cover is usually not suitable for those wishing to take a gap year or extended break as annual policies are designed to cover frequent multi trips of around 30 days in length. Gap insurance covers travellers taking prolonged trips.
American Express Gap Insurance policies are available for durations of three, six, nine, twelve, fifteen or eighteen months. There are two types of policies. The first is for Worldwide cover for adults aged 18 – 65 inclusive. The second is for Worldwide cover which specifically excludes North America and the Caribbean and is available for adults aged 18 – 79 inclusive.
American Express Gap Insurance offers many benefits including:
Medical Emergency & Repatriation Cover up to £10 million.

Field: “A good, comprehensive policy with a 24 hour helpline can be invaluable - not just in a medical emergency but in a variety of situations. For example, our policy will even help in the event of plumbing emergency at home or if a close family relative back in the UK becomes ill with an unforeseen illness or injury.”
