Escape the rain and get protected for less

This summer, the Post Office is offering money off its travel insurance policies.

From July 2 until August 31, prices on annual travel multi-trip policies will be cut by £10 per person. Single trip policies for six days or more will be reduced by £5 per person. All policies are available for cover in Europe or worldwide.

The Post Office hopes these discounts will encourage more people to take out adequate cover for their break this summer. New figures from the Post Office reveal that nearly half of holidaymakers are still not taking out ANY travel insurance when they go abroad. When questioned, 47 per cent of people admitted they had been on holiday without any insurance.

When asked why they didn’t buy insurance, 46 per cent of people said they considered it a waste of money and didn’t think they’d need it. One in eight people (14 per cent) said they simply forgot. A further 12 per cent said the cost puts them off buying insurance.

Holidaymakers in London are the highest risk takers with 55 per cent saying they had gone away without insurance at least once. People in Scotland, the Midlands and Wales and the rest of the South are slightly more cautious (48, 45 and 46 per cent respectively had not taken out insurance). In contrast, people in the North are the most prepared with 57 per cent saying they had never travelled without cover.

Post Office head of travel Kevin McAdam said: “The amount of people who have admitted to going on holiday with any cover at all is extremely alarming. Our figures prove that travel insurance is all too often forgotten in the excitement of getting ready to go on holiday, or even worse, it is considered by some to be non-essential.

“But something as commonplace as a lost bag or visit to a doctor abroad could see a person shelling out hundreds of pounds if they don’t have insurance. Why take the risk?”

Travellers buying Post Office travel insurance online will also benefit from the new summer discounts, as well as receiving a further 10 per cent cost reduction through the Post Office website (postoffice.co.uk).

At the Post Office customers can discuss the type of insurance they need over the counter face to face, or by telephone, helping them to identify the appropriate level of cover for their specific needs.

The Post Office offers a range of great value travel insurance policies to anyone travelling within the UK or abroad.
