MORE TH>N offers guidance for troubled travelers at Heathrow’s T5

31st March 2008 Print
MORE TH>N is reiterating its commitment to customers by offering guidance to those affected by the chaotic problems at Heathrow’s new Terminal 5.

The maelstrom surrounding the £4.3bn terminal has seen thousands of passengers delayed as more than 200 flights have been cancelled and over 15,000 bags and cases lost or misdirected. In the wake of the problems, MORE TH> N is offering the following guidance:

If your flight is cancelled you should ask your airline for either a refund or to be booked on to an alternative flight to your final destination

If your flight is delayed, you should seek compensation from the airline; including meals, refreshments and where necessary overnight accommodation

Your travel insurance should also provide compensation in the event of a delay. For example, MORE TH> N offers customers £20 after 12 hours delay and an additional £20 for every 6 hours thereafter

If you are still delayed after 24 hours, you might want to cut your losses so check whether your travel insurance offers compensation for cancellation in this instance

If your luggage is delayed for over 12 hours travel insurance will cover the cost of essential items that need to be purchased (but not if you have elected to fly without your baggage)

If your luggage is not recovered it is your airline’s responsibility to cover initial costs and your insurer will usually cover further losses not covered by the airline

Graham Nicholls, Travel Insurance Manager at MORE TH> N, advises: “Travelers should bear in mind that most insurance policies don’t cover valuables kept in the hold and should therefore always pack valuables in hand luggage or keep them on their person during the flight.

“It’s important travelers affected by the cancellations or baggage confusion at Terminal 5 know their rights in order to understand what compensation they are due. But most importantly they should keep in regular contact with their airline to find the best way of reaching their end destination.”
