Travellers face delays at Gatwick with Bank Holiday strike looming

20th August 2008 Print
Passengers flying out of Britain's second busiest airport Gatwick, face the prospect of long delays and chaos as baggage handlers and check-in staff threaten to stage two 24-hour strikes including one over Bank Holiday Monday.

ASDA Financial Services is urging passengers to check they have adequate travel insurance to cover them in the event of cancelled or delayed flights. With the prospect of affecting thousands of passengers, the industrial action is grim news for passengers looking to escape Britain's disappointing summer weather. A follow-up strike has also been planned by workers for Friday 29 August.

Gideon Ingham, ASDA Financial Services comments: "Taking out adequate travel insurance shouldn't be seen as an optional extra, but at ASDA we advise all our customers that it's an essential must-have. Being delayed at the airport is just one of the risks travellers face when they go on holiday and aside from the inconvenience, the last thing we want is for them to be out of pocket too."
