Check your travel policy for terrorism cover
With the 7th anniversary of the September 11th attack on the World Trade Centre looming, the threat of terrorism is still very apparent. However, many people do not consider the risk of terrorism when they are travelling.
If such an event were to happen, consumers should consider the implications of whether their travel insurance policy provides cover for terrorism.
Defaqto has analysed the annual and single travel insurance market and has revealed that while most providers would probably pay medical claims resulting from terrorism, travellers could lose out in the case of baggage and personal accident claims.
Mike Powell, Consultant for General Insurance at Defaqto, says: "Our research shows that of the 976 annual and single trips analysed, only 63% of policies available offer some form of protection following a terrorist incident, which leaves a significant proportion of people who are at risk from purchasing inadequate cover."
Powell continues: "Terrorism is not always a consideration that you would even think about when purchasing your travel insurance cover, but you should check with your insurer to confirm the cover provided, particularly if you are travelling to countries at risk of terrorism."
