Brits unsure of their car insurance cover – easyMoney.com

1st February 2007 Print
Over one in ten Brits has no idea what they are paying for when it comes to their car insurance, according to research from on-line car insurer easyMoney.com. With simple and easy-to-understand policies and a third of people looking to save money this year, easyMoney.com could be the obvious remedy.

In addition to 11 per cent of people admitting they didn’t have any idea what their insurance covers, the easyMoney/YouGov research shows another 14 per cent don’t think they would be insured if their car was stolen and 15 per cent wouldn’t expect cover in the event of a fire. In reality everyone with comprehensive or third party, fire and theft car insurance would be insured. Female car drivers are the worst culprits with nearly one in eight (14 per cent) oblivious to what their premiums are going on. Despite not knowing what is in their car insurance cover 68 per cent said they were confident that it was value for money.

With so many cover options available, it could be that car owners are paying for things they just don’t need. Seventy nine per cent haven’t needed a replacement windscreen and 96 per cent haven’t had to replace a lost or broken key in the last five years, so it's important that motorists really think about what cover they really value and what cover they are prepared to do without.

All this comes at a time when people are looking to make some changes -whether it's cut back on spending, get in shape or change job. Over two thirds of people (36 per cent) said they will be trying to save money during 2007. Again, women are leading the way with 41 per cent looking to save the pennies with 46 per cent looking to lose the pounds as well.

Thirteen per cent of all people are looking forward to getting a new job with 10 per cent on the look out for a new house.

Stelios, the serial entrepreneur and founder of easymoney.com, said, "It's amazing that so many people are shelling out so much money with no idea what they are paying for and for 'services' which they never use. With easyMoney’s great value car insurance, it’s all about choice and if you're looking to save money while safe in the knowledge that you've got the basic cover in place, easyMoney car insurance could be for you."
