moneysupermarket.com comments on ABI clampdown on uninsured motorists
Richard Mason, managing director of insurance at price comparison website moneysupermarket.com, comments on the Association of British Insurers’ clampdown on motorists retrieving seized vehicles through the ‘Driving other Cars’ provision in their policy.“We applaud this crackdown by the ABI, which will ensure cars confiscated from uninsured drivers stay impounded until the registered keeper can return with proof of insurance – blocking the ability of other motorists liberating the vehicle on the owner’s behalf using their own insurance policy.
“This demonstrates the ABI’s recognition of how big a problem uninsured drivers are posing. moneysupermarket.com’s research shows one in eight drivers have admitted to driving without insurance at some point, with almost a third of those under 30 admitting to this offence.
“It’s important to realise anyone who drives without cover is breaking the law and poses a financial risk to themselves and other road users.”
