Contaminated petrol - ABI response

1st March 2007 Print
"Motorists affected by the problem of contaminated petrol should be able to claim for the cost of accidental damage if they have a comprehensive motor insurance policy", the ABI said today.

The Association urged all motorists to keep any evidence that they have purchased the alleged contaminated petrol in order to submit it to their insurance company if they make a claim. Normal rules about excesses and no claims bonuses apply.

An ABI spokesman said: "At the moment, it is still not clear where liability for this problem lies. Nevertheless, the insurance industry can provide this important reassurance to customers in the meantime that, provided they have comprehensive insurance, they need not lose out."
