Say goodbye to the weakest link in motor insurance
Gocompare.com comments on the Department for Transport’s (DfT) decision to give the go-ahead for electronic motor insurance certificates.Hayley Parsons, Managing Director at Gocompare.com, said: “Few people will shed a tear over ‘the death of the cover note’. Anyone who has bought a new car only to sit and wait for their insurance to turn up will testify that it is very much the Weakest Link in the whole process. As well as taxing their vehicle online, consumers can already use an online comparison site to research the best policy, obtain a guaranteed insurance premium, click straight through to a pre-filled application form and then buy their insurance online.”
“However, after speeding through those steps, the wheels then come off when you have to wait for a cover note to arrive in the post. Online insurance certificates are the motor insurance equivalent of the St Pancras high-speed link - updating that process will hugely enhance the experience of buying your motor insurance online.”
“Online insurance certificates could also have a positive impact on the environment. With over 33 million motor vehicles licensed in the UK, this could take millions of policy packs out of the postal system and off the road as well as reducing the amount of paper and packaging required.”
