Drivers and mobile-phone convictions

19th September 2008 Print
Following on from recent findings that texting when driving is more dangerous than drinking, research from comparethemarket.com, reveals that 1 in 2 drivers are not declaring their mobile-phone convictions as they think it will push their premium up.

However, in reality, it is likely to be just a minimal increase of £20-60. If it is discovered that someone has knowingly failed to disclose their convictions to their insurance company they could find themselves having their insurance invalidated in the event of a claim.

Jeremy Moll, insurance expert, comparethemarket.com says, "If you have a car accident whilst using your mobile phone you risk having your insurance claim thrown out and getting convictions on your license. The most sensible thing to do when driving is to not use your mobile phone at any time. If you have to pick up the phone ensure you pull over safely before taking the call."
