James Bond and Lara Croft leave Del Boy shaken and stirred in race for cheaper car insurance
Del Boy's plans to become a millionaire this time next year could be thwarted by his extortionate motor insurance premiums, according to Confused.com.Despite owning a modest Reliant Robin, Del Boy's Peckham address drives his motor insurance up to a whopping annual average of £623.60, rising to as much as £928.50 in one instance. Del Boy is almost twice (182%) as risky to insure as fearless archaeologist, Tomb Raider's Lara Croft. In fact, international man of mystery James Bond only pays £21 more, on average, per month than Del Boy, despite the fact that he drives a brand new, swanky Aston Martin DBS.
Action diva Croft faces annual average motor insurance costs of a mere £341.82, and could save even more money by insuring her Landrover Defender 110 with Sheila's Wheels for a reasonable £325.99. Chelsea neighbour, James Bond - despite his propensity for high-speed car chases and gunfights - could end up paying £885.65 for his car insurance by insuring his DBS with Bell, compared with the £928.50 which Del Boy could end up paying if he fails to shop around and ends up insuring his vehicle with the most expensive insurer.
Will Thomas, head of car insurance at Confused.com, says: "This time next year, he may well be a millionaire but until then, opportunist market trader - and our favourite entrepreneur - Derek Trotter, stands to be one of the people who could benefit the most from searching on Confused.com for insurance for his trusty Reliant Robin. The massive £556.44 difference, between the best and worst car insurance quotes, gives some indication of the savings which could be made by Del Boy, if he decided to shop around.
