Forget Friday 13th… Monday 27th is Britian’s unluckiest day
Friday 13th might have been associated with accidents and misfortune since Biblical times, but data released today proves Monday 27th is in fact the unluckiest day in Britain.AA Insurance’s analysis of a million insurance claims reveals Brits are more likely to have an accident on Monday 27th than on any other day of the year.
Homes are especially hazardous on this day, judging by the claims AA Insurance receives, with a third (33%) of all homes claims being for accidental damage. And nearly a fifth (18%) of all claims involved ‘escape of water’. Some of the home disasters reported on Monday 27th include:
Christmas calamity: Mr Y put his foot through a ceiling whilst Christmas decorations from the loft
Bath time blues: Mrs X forgot she’d left the tap running causing her bath to overflow and flood the house
Smashing Storms: Strong winds snapped a tree branch sending it crashing through Mr Z’s greenhouse
Fire-y Feline: Mrs X’s pet cat Felix knocked over a candle, sparking off a fire
Pipe pandemonium: Mr Y accidentally drilled through a pipe under an upstairs floor during a DIY job, bringing the ceiling below down and ruining the electrics
Motor accidents are also a cause of concern on Monday 27th. This November’s stormy weather, longer nights and leaves on the roads mean driving conditions could be especially dangerous. Some examples of motor accidents that have befallen unlucky Brits on Monday 27th include:
Car Park catastrophe: Mrs X underestimated the width of the ramps whilst parking in her town’s multi story, and lost half her bumper (a third of all car insurance claims come from car parks)
Brakes on: Mr Y forgot to put the handbrake on when he parked his vehicle on the drive, sending it rolling into the garage door – damaging his wife’s car which was inside
TV horror: Miss Z looked out of her flat window one morning to see a television aerial had blown from a nearby house during the previous night’s storm – and landed on her car
Crunched: Mr W stopped quickly to avoid hitting a dog running over the road – unfortunately, the van behind skidded on wet autumn leaves and smacked into the back of his car
