Beware Burns night parties

24th January 2007 Print
Post-Hogmanay blues are set to be banished this week as Scots around the world prepare to party on Burns Night.

But, amidst Scotland’s best-loved Bard’s birthday celebrations, leading home insurance company, Zurich, is urging revellers to look ahead to the morning after.

While post-party home wreckage is often blamed on teenagers, Mums and Dads also play their part. Recent research by Zurich revealed that out of the 62 per cent of Scottish parents who have held parties in the last five years, a third (32 per cent) suffered domestic damage as a result, with the average party repair bill in Scotland coming in at more than £100.

So before the festivities unfold, Zurich advises party-throwers to check that their home insurance covers any potential party damage. Martin Hall, Head of Personal Lines Underwriting at Zurich says “If people are planning to celebrate Burns Night with a party at home, it’s worth taking a few minutes to check their insurance policies – possibly even considering extending the protection for their contents to include accidental damage. As we say at Zurich, “change happens” – and we wouldn’t want people to face more change than they anticipated the morning after the night before – with stained carpets or damaged furniture due to party high jinx. By making sure they have the right policy in place, they can let their hair down, and have a worry free Burns Night.”
