Protect yourself and your children from playground crime
As the new school year begins, Abbey home insurance is urging parents to ensure that their home insurance policy covers their children’s personal possessions while they are at school. Analysis of Government data by Abbey Insurance suggests that approximately 60 per cent of personal theft against children aged 10-15 happens at school. The research also shows that over one in ten (13 per cent) of pupils had been the victim of at least one personal theft over a twelve month period, with the 10-15 age group more likely than 16-25 year olds to have been a victim of personal crime.
Prasad Shastri, Head of Insurance Marketing at Abbey, said: "The report suggests that the majority of school children who are victims of theft believe that it is just ‘something that happens’, which is encouraging for the emotional well being of a child, but does not help alleviate the financial burden to the parents who can spend on average over £250 on Hi-Tech gadgets and the latest ‘must-have’ item”.
Abbey’s ‘Peace of Mind’ insurance will cover items stolen in the playground if customers have signed up to the ‘Personal Possessions’ option offered by Abbey.
