With many people planning to enjoy the spectacles in the sky by hosting a private party this Bonfire Night, Halifax Home Insurance is urging people to stay safe whilst stoking the home fires. Research carried out by the insurer, revealed that nearly 6 million Brits are willing to risk the health and safety of themselves, their guests and their homes by using lethal accelerants to kick start their bonfire. As private parties are becoming more popular the increase in accidents has risen. With the majority of accidents involving fireworks occurring at private parties, at home or in the vicinity of houses, Halifax points out how vital insurance is.
Vicky Emmott, Halifax General Insurance said: 'The 5th November is an evening that the majority of us look forward to but it is also an evening where we need to take extra steps to protect our homes. We are surrounded by explosives which have the potential to cause terrible accidents, and all of us need to be sensible and avoid taking unnecessary risks around fire and fireworks. It is important to double check your insurance to ensure you are covered for fire damage to property, personal liability, and garden damage. Those with cats and dogs may also want to consider pet insurance to protect their furry friends from the potential dangers of Bonfire Night.'
