Tesco Home Insurance throws in 10% extra cover for gifts

27th November 2007 Print
Tesco Home Insurance is helping out over Christmas by giving customers an automatic 10% increase in their contents cover for the festive season.

With people buying their Christmas presents in advance of the big day and storing high value items such as MP3 players, games consoles and designer jewellery, many householders are unaware they are exceeding the limits of their normal contents insurance cover.

Allan Burns, head of Tesco Home Insurance, says; “Over the Christmas period, when homes are full of gifts, it’s sensible for consumers to make their houses as secure as possible. We aim to make it a less stressful time by increasing customers’ cover at no extra charge.”

The offer runs from 1st December until the 15th of January and is on top of any other discounts on the policy.

Christmas Tips

After buying an expensive gift, contact your insurer to make sure that you are covered.

Keep receipts and photos of your gifts as this will assist greatly in any claim.

Be careful about storing presents outside in sheds and outhouses, your policy may not cover it.

If disposing of packaging, do not leave it in nearby bins or outside your house, this is an invitation to thieves – they will know what you have bought.

Be careful about leaving expensive presents under the tree, it is an easy target.

Don’t leave gifts in front of a window, particularly if it faces on to the street.

If you’re going away, ask your neighbours to keep an eye on your home or use timed lights.
