Britain counts the cost of bad weather
With Britain’s weather becoming ever more turbulent, UK homes are becoming increasingly at risk, with 11 per cent of British homes being damaged in the last five years.Roofs and gardens are the most likely places to incur a battering from the great British weather, although our interiors are also affected, with a quarter of all damage caused taking place inside our properties, for example where loose tiles cause water to leak into the house.
Those in Wales and the South West worry most about bad weather damaging their property, whilst the Scottish are the most laid back with only 29 per cent feeling concerned about potential damage to their homes.
However, it is not all doom and gloom as our bad weather may be bonding our local communities together. 59 per cent of us check on elderly relatives, neighbours or friends in the event of severe weather.
Lloyd Wilson, Head Of Abbey Home Insurance Product Development: “Bad weather damage is a costly inconvenience and for some people, especially in flood areas, it is becoming a yearly nightmare. Our research shows that the risk of damage to our homes is an ever-increasing reality and we need to be prepared for it.
Lloyd Wilson continued: “The British weather is highly unpredictable but we can all ensure that should the worst happen we are correctly insured. For those Abbey customers who have Abbey Home Insurance it offers quality cover that can ease the worry and take the sting out of financing repairs.”
