Make sure your garden treasure is covered
With summer around the corner and the bank holiday weekend here, many Brits will be going away or sprucing up their gardens and entertaining outside. With garden cover typically varying from £250 to £1,500, depending on your insurer, price comparison site moneysupermarket.com urges homeowners to ensure their insurance has enough cover so not to be left out of pocket if thieves strike.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "All providers differ on what is and isn't included within your cover for gardens - and the amounts.
"A lawnmower or other expensive items such as a barbecue or heater in your garden can be easy targets for thieves. If you have a landscaped garden with expensive plants or small elaborate statues, you would also be well advised to check the amount of garden cover you have."
Peter Gerrard continued:: "My top five tips for the garden are to not leave expensive items lying around, read the small print of your policy so you know what is covered, make sure your shed has a good lock, install a security light as a deterrent to would-be thieves, and keep your receipts."
