Stop your freezer savings melting away
With food prices continuing to rocket, rural insurer NFU Mutual is urging people to check the level of freezer cover provided by their home insurance.During summer months when there is risk of thunder storms, a power cut or fault in the freezer can mean that the entire contents have to be thrown away. This could be even more problematic if you are on holiday and return home to a freezer full of ruined food.
Sylvia Newham at NFU Mutual comments, "People should check not only that their home insurance policy covers their freezer, but also that it coves the full value of the freezer's contents. Rural dwellers are often more susceptible to power cuts than those elsewhere and in just one blackout you could lose all your food. With increased food prices, the contents of a large freezer could easily run into hundreds of pounds so freezer insurance is now more vital than ever.
"NFU Mutual is one of only a handful of major insurers that does not impose limits on the amount of food covered."
The average family's food bill rose by up to £750 last year because food prices are rising twice as fast as overall inflation.
