Cyclists urged to ensure they have adequate cover

25th July 2008 Print
The theft of David Cameron's prized mountain bike, proves even political leaders can fall victim to petty crime. Following the Tory leader's bad luck, ASDA Financial Services is calling on cyclists to ensure their home and contents insurance provides cover for their bike.

Cameron's £1,000 Scott Mountain Bike was stolen outside a Tesco Metro store in Notting Hill, close to the leader's home. With nearly 2,000 bikes stolen in the capital in the past year, including that of London Mayor, Boris Johnson, it can be a hazardous place to be a cyclist.

Cameron's reputation as an avid cyclist has helped him score points on the green debate on finding more environmentally friendly forms of transport. We all hope this latest episode doesn't dampen his enthusiasm for cycling.

Gideon Ingham ASDA Financial Services comments: "Cyclists should make sure they're not left out of pocket by ensuring valuable bikes have adequate cover and are always listed amongst their personal possessions. Bikes should always be securely stored to keep potential thieves at bay. Be warned cyclists - lock it, or lose it!"

ASDA's Home Insurance has a panel to search around for a competitive price and automatically re-brokers on renewal to remove all the hassle for the customer.
