Keep personal belongings covered this summer

12th June 2009 Print
With summer fast approaching more and more of us are packing our suitcases and heading for the sunshine.

While the break might be doing us good, Cheshire Building Society is reminding people to make sure their personal belongings are insured to avoid disappointment if they are lost or stolen.

"It's important to review your insurance policy to make sure you're covered for items away from the home," said Karen Torson, product manager at Cheshire Building Society. "Many people assume they're automatically covered when they take a policy out, but this isn't always the case and it can lead to disappointment if a claim isn't met in full or is declined."

Underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc, Cheshire's home insurance has the option to provide worldwide cover for accidental loss or damage to personal belongings for up to 60 days. There are no charges for monthly direct debit payments and the level of cover can be tailored to suit so the policy holder only pays for what they actually need.

"While personal belongings cover away from the home is an additional cost to your home insurance policy, the upside is that you don't need baggage cover when taking out travel insurance, giving you that little bit extra to spend while you're away." concluded Karen.
