Legal & General reduces declined CIC claims by 42%

11th March 2009 Print
Bernie Hickman, Managing Director of Protection said: "This is further evidence that Legal & General pays out when customers need it most, which is what really matters to a policyholder. Advisers should consider this as one of the most important factors when recommending critical illness cover to their clients. Our claims history demonstrates that the measures taken to reduce declined critical illness claims are working. In the last five years alone we have paid out almost £500m in critical illness claims to our policyholders."

Over 2000 claims were paid out in total with the largest claim amounting to £550,000. £215million was also paid on life insurance claims, representing 98% of claims received, benefiting over 4800 families.

Bernie Hickman chairs the ABI committee that produced the most recent industry code on protection claims and non-disclosure. This brings a consistency of best practice from all insurers, reducing the number of declined protection claims to the benefit of policyholders and their families.
