Standard and Poor’s assesses managers on the stability of their parent group, the appropriateness of their investment policies, and the sustainability of their performance. The ratings agency’s methodology aims to identify the process, research skills, team strength and group solidity that lies behind the long-term outperformance of leading funds in each market and sector.
Ratings were awarded to the seven Aberdeen funds after meticulous research and analysis including interviews with investment managers. Following this process, Standard and Poor's noted several consistent themes across the Aberdeen funds reviewed: a team approach to managing money, disciplined investment processes, a preference for in-house research rather than sell-side broker research, and a blend of experience and youth within investment teams.
Anne Richards, Chief Investment Officer at Aberdeen, said: “The ratings awarded to seven Aberdeen funds by Standard and Poor’s are recognition of our twenty-five years of investment management experience, our disciplined investment processes, and our team-based approach. Above all, our investment decisions, supported by proprietary research, are based on long-term asset fundamentals rather than on speculative trading opportunities.”
