Gartmore SICAV Latin American Fund wins Lipper Award
Gartmore's SICAV Latin American Fund is the best fund in its asset class over the last three years, according to the data provider Lipper Spain. The awards were presented at the Wellington Hotel in Madrid on 5 February. The Fund, managed by Chris Palmer, Head of Global Emerging Markets at Gartmore, has a strong track record. It outperformed its sector by more than 12 percentage points over three years, to the end of December 2008, making it the leading fund in the Lipper Offshore Equity Latin America category over that timescale.
Commenting on the investment prospects for the Fund, Chris Palmer notes that Latin American markets are relatively well placed in comparison with other regions in 2009. "Although stock markets have dropped considerably from their highs in 2007, neither the weak economic backdrop nor the regional decline of equity markets has led to widespread financial or corporate failure in the Latin region. Latin America's public and private institutions remain robust and well capitalised, giving the region a unique advantage in providing a platform for recovery."
