UK customers offered free prepaid card

13th August 2008 Print
M-Cube announces that it will waive all purchase and delivery fees for UK customers choosing its Aspinall Foundation Maestro prepaid card.

M-Cube will bear all of the costs charged by its suppliers associated with the production of the prepaid card. In addition, all profits from transactions made by cardholders using the card will also be donated by M-Cube directly to the charity.

This money will be used to support the work of the Aspinall Foundation in protecting the western lowland gorilla.

Existing holders of the prepaid card will also be offered the choice of a refund of the £11.98 original purchase and delivery price or the opportunity for a donation of that amount to be made on their behalf to the charity.

M-Cube has decided to waive these fees as part of its ongoing programme to support efforts to ensure the survival of the critically endangered western lowland gorilla. The business is aiming to raise £500,000 per year in additional income to support the work of the charity in the UK.

M-Cube's announcement follows the recent announcement by the World Conservation Society (WCS) of census data revealing that the western lowland gorilla population is greater than had been previously thought by experts. There is no room for complacency, however, as the species remains at very high risk and efforts to protect it must continue.

Mashallah H. M. Ali, Chief Executive, M-Cube, said: "Many businesses talk about supporting charitable causes but today we're going one step further. Not only are we donating our own profits to charity but we're also offering to make donations on behalf of our customers. We really are putting our money where our mouth is with no strings or hidden clauses attached.

"No prepaid card business has in the UK has ever made such a firm statement of its commitment to a charity. M-Cube is absolutely dedicated to supporting the protection of the western lowland gorilla and we're delighted to be offering consumers the opportunity to join us in making a contribution to this magnificent cause.

"This announcement reinforces our position at the forefront of industry thinking and as a business that is proud to maintain its social conscience in today's cut-throat commercial world."

The prepaid card, which was originally launched on 17th March 2008, is the first card of its kind in the UK to reward cardholder loyalty by delivering additional income to a charity dedicated to conserving endangered species and returning them to their natural habitats.
