Barclaycard Student

27th August 2008 Print
With the approach of the new academic term, Barclaycard will be offering students clear advice on the benefits of using credit and the potential downsides of debt plus advice on borrowing responsibly.

Barclaycard Student continues to offer a maximum opening credit limit of £600 and customers visiting barclaycardstudent.co.uk can access a guide on responsible borrowing. The guide includes advice on finding the best deal, that missing payments can be costly and the importance of paying off as much of the balance as possible each month. In addition, customers will also be able to use a repayment calculator, which allows them to see how much their borrowing could cost per month and per year if they opt to borrow.

Amer Sajed, Managing Director UK Cards said: “Cards can be useful for students managing a tight budget. If used sensibly they can establish a credit record for the future but only if they are used appropriately.” He continued “Customers using our site will get straight-forward advice to help them make the most of the benefits and avoid the pitfalls of using credit cards.”

Barclaycard Student has a range of features to promote responsible borrowing for individuals new to credit including:

A maximum credit limit of £600 at account opening
Free text message reminders when the monthly payment is due
A minimum monthly repayment of 5% or £5 (whichever is the greater)
A standard purchase APR of 14.9%
A rate of 14.9% on cash advances (a 2.5% cash handling charge applies, with a minimum of £2.50)
In addition, customers will receive discounts at selected retailers including ticketmaster and Domino’s.
