After a year of belt tightening - single people still loosening theirs!
Results from the latest Legal & General MoneyMood Survey show that although the mood for saving has increased over the past year, many of us still have some money left over each month, and are in the mood for spending on entertainment.April's results show that when questioned, six per cent more of us are managing to save some of our monthly income compared to April 2007.
In April 2008, single people not surprisingly account for 60 per cent of those still in the mood to spend money, once bills and debts are paid, on entertainment such as eating out.
Julia Clayworth, Legal & General's Wealth Management Head of Marketing, said: " It is reassuring that people's saving habits are gradually changing despite the reported economic downturn and that they are still managing to have some fun as well - so not all doom and gloom. Overall however, about a third of all responses equalling 31 per cent have no extra money for going out and for those who did, 17 per cent had less than £100 to spend each month in total.
"It seems that the mood for putting aside a small amount each month as part of a regular savings plan is starting to change. With the start of the new tax year with new investments available, there is no better time than now to start!"
