Christmas comes early for ASDA customers

17th November 2008 Print
More than a quarter of a million ASDA Christmas Savings Card holders woke up this morning to a bonus of £1 million to help them make the most of this Christmas. The bonus is reward for the savvy shoppers who have decided to spread the cost of Christmas.

With household disposable incomes stretched and ASDA research expecting households to spend £300million less on the festive period compared to last year, the ASDA Christmas Savings Card provides customers with a simple and secure way to save money for Christmas, little by little.

Customers only needed to save £144 on their card by 5.00pm 16th November to qualify for the tax-free bonus of 4.2%, which was automatically added to the value of the card on the next day. The 4.2% rate rivals many bank and building societies as is not calculated over the year.

Amanda Farrell, head of ASDA Christmas Savings Scheme, explains: "The ASDA Christmas Savings Card beats banks and building societies hands down and makes pounds go further. We encourage customers to save throughout the year, and offer an extra incentive near Christmas to help them get the best out of their festive shopping."

Customers who missed this year's bonus can already look to Christmas 2009. They only need to save 39p a day for the next 365 days to save the maximum £144 to achieve the full bonus. Cards can be picked up at any checkout or customer service desk.

Customers can use the savings to purchase their weekly ASDA shop or select Christmas gifts from ASDA's extensive range of electrical goods, music and DVDs, home and leisure items, or the George clothing range.
