NCC welcomes new move against loan sharks

The National Consumer Council (NCC) is delighted that a scheme to tackle loan sharks will be rolled out nationally to help nearly 200,000 of the poorest, most vulnerable people escape the grip of illegal lenders.

Claire Whyley, NCC deputy director of policy said: ‘Removing illegal lenders from these communities not only frees their victims from threats and intimidation, but can help people find ways to borrow more cheaply. It's vital, though, that these new projects are supported by efforts to make more affordable credit widely accessible in poor communities’.
