Fantastic investment for Newcastle Building Society Share Traders
A Newcastle Building Society team have displayed their inner Gordon Geckos to win a north east charity share trading event. The six-strong Newcastle team took on rivals from 18 other regional professional services firms and commercial organisations in the annual Newcastle Stock Market Challenge.
And after turning their initial £10,000 portfolio into an amazing £666,000, the Society's team - the Junk Bond Junkies - walked away with the first prize of the much-coveted Stock Market Challenge Red Braces!
The event saw competitors locking financial horns over five 20 minute trading sessions, representing a full week of share dealing in fictional companies, with TV reports and intense media speculation providing clues to what trades to make and when to make them.
The team's success helped to raise more than £5,000 for The Children's Foundation, the north east's leading child health and well-being charity.
Newcastle team captain, Tony Pierce, said: "Our star trader, Paul Parkinson bought into a lot of airline shares and hung on to them while others were selling until we saw them rocket. It was an action packed evening full of excitement and intensity as the value of our investments rose and fell, and the value of our portfolio grew as we made some great trades. We are pleased to support the Children's Foundation and coming out on top made a great event even better."
The four other members of the Junk Bond Junkies were Duncan Fitzpatrick, Nic Erevik, Sarah Gannie and Nigel Hudspeth.
