Registrations open for Student Investor competition

17th September 2009 Print
Financial education charity the ifs School of Finance today opened registrations for the 2009-10 ifs Student Investor competition and confirmed they were expecting more than 40,000 teenagers to participate.

The annual ifs Student Investor is a free competition that equips thousands of young people between the ages of 14-19 with the knowledge and capability to manage their own finances, both now and in the future, by providing a practical insight into stock markets, savings and investments.

Students invest a fantasy £100,000 in the stock market over a four month period, followed by regional finals involving a business and finance quiz and a national final where the top 8 teams in the country compete for an all expenses paid trip to New York and £2,000 for their school or college.

Rod McKee, Head of Financial Capability at the ifs School of Finance, said: "We again look forward to a record number of teenagers taking part in a competition that gives school and college students a very realistic introduction to savings and investments in a completely risk free environment.

I urge all 14-19 year olds to take advantage of this fantastic learning opportunity."
