A&L business current accounts available from Post Offices

22nd October 2008 Print
Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank has teamed up with Post Office Limited to launch a new scheme for small businesses.

Under the new agreement Post Office branches will be able to introduce a range of Alliance & Leicester business current accounts to small business customers.

The launch follows a successful pilot which was carried out with the National Federation of Sub Postmasters (NFSP) over a three month period at 41 Post Offices across the UK.

Customers of the bank already benefit from being able to carry out their day to day banking transactions at any of the UK's network of Post Offices. Business customers are able to pay in or withdraw cash and check their account balance and deposit cheques over the counter, as well as receive a change giving service. The new agreement further strengthens and extends Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank's support for the Post Office network.

The Post Office has the largest retail network in the UK, which is bigger than all of the UK banks combined and 90% of the population lives within one mile of their nearest Post Office branch.

Andrew Spice, Post Office Head of Banking and Payment Services, said: "This new arrangement further extends the range of useful services on offer for small businesses at their local Post Office branch. From banking and mail services, to cash collection and even van insurance - small businesses can now benefit from the convenience of an introduction service for specialist business bank accounts."

Steve Jennings, Director of Business Banking at Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank said: "I am confident that the new agreement with the Post Office enabling them to introduce Alliance & Leicester business current accounts to businesses will prove to be a huge success. For nearly four decades, the Post Office has provided a convenient and high quality service to Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank's customers and businesses of all sizes. Indeed a growing number of larger organisations, including most of the UK's top retailers use the Post Office network for their cash deposits.

"More and more business owners are waking up to the fact that not all business current accounts are the same and are choosing to switch for a better deal. When reviewing the different accounts available business owners need to consider accessibility as well as charges and credit interest. Business owners need local facilities to pay in cheques, deposit cash or access change and the Post Office can fulfil all these needs and because it has a larger network than any bank there is always one close by."
