The perils of bubble hair

Rae herself is acknowledged as an industry pioneer, especially for all things colour, and is keen to offer specialist services in the salon environment.
“Most people will suffer from scalp or hair problems from time to time, whether it’s following childbirth or just comes out of the blue. It makes sense to me that a hairdresser should be able to treat this in the relaxing environment of a private room in salon, rather than the client having to go to a doctor’s surgery,” says Rae.
Top Trichology Tip: The dangers of Bubble hair!
“Bubble hair sounds like a scary 80s style, but in fact, it’s what can happen if you apply too much heat to the hair. Hairdryers and other heated appliances soften the protein keratin in the hair. If they are too hot, they can actually cause the water in the hair to boil, and tiny bubbles of steam then form inside the softened hair-shaft. To prevent Bubble hair always apply a protective layer of styling product or a silicone conditioner to the hair before styling and keep your hairdryer on a medium heat, or don’t hold too close to the hair-shaft when styling.”
Rae’s product of the month:
“Duality is a fantastic conditioning semi-permanent colour product from Schwarzkopf, which coats the hair with caring polymers, protecting the hair-shaft with vitamins B6, and lasting up to 15 washes. I use it as a finishing gloss in the salon after every colour to add shine and leave hair feeling silky soft. As part of the finish gloss service we give Duality to the client to take home, to maintain the high quality finish reflective tones this product leaves in the hair. It’s really quick and easy to use and a great way to boost hair.”
