Celebrity stylist tells you how to get the look

Celebrity stylist tells you how to get the look Since finishing work on Sex & The City: The Movie, where she headed up the hair department for the LA leg of filming, session stylist Tara Smith has been busy with various celebrity clients for shoots and events prior to starting on a new film with Demi Moore in April.

Celebrity projects include:

Kristen Davis – Tara comments; “I blew Kristen’s hair out, sprayed root lift into her hair, and used a big round brush for volume, movement, and root lift.”

Nicole Kidman “I had just 35 minutes to do Nicole’s hair so styled a classic look with different sized curls. As the hair was already semi dry, I diffused it as Nicole has naturally quite tight curls. I used 2 different sizes curling irons (medium and large) for the different sized curls – I really recommend investing in these for 2008’s key curly looks so you don’t just have one size of uniform curl.

“I then blew the hair at the front of the head out straight and took back off the face with a little bobby pin. I used Alterna 10 Ultrafine Brushable Hairspray because it’s light and easy to brush out, and smoothed my own brand serum through the hair when damp, perfect to de-frizz. The end result was on trend and glamorous, perfect for an event.”

Anna Friel “For the press junket for Anna’s new TV show, Pushing Daisies, I blew her hair out straight and pulled it across to the side into a ponytail and soft fringe. For the billboard ads I gave her a curly look – I left the hair to mostly dry naturally, then finished with a diffuser and curling irons to again give different sized curls all through hair.”

Natalie Imbruglia “I undercut the bob at the side so it has a different direction – on one side of the head it's boyish while the other side is more feminine; she can pull it down and tuck it behind her ears if she likes. I blended it through with the short shaved nape of the neck. It’s a good summer look, plus it’s nice and light and low-maintenance. We shot for Sass & Bide’s cancer campaign with a smoother, sleeker style, while for the shoot with Rankin for the WWF Earth Hour campaign (8pm, 28th March) I roughed it up with Fudge styling paste for an edgier feel.

And the boys . . .

Tara’s also been cutting and grooming the likes of Lee Pace (Anna Friel’s Pushing Daisies co-star), Quentin Tarantino, Jamie Bell, the cast of Heroes and Kasabian’s Serge Pizzorno.

Tara Smith releases her own eco-friendly product range through Tesco in October.
