A new breed of beer

A new breed of beer Beer is back! Whilst we’ve been cooly sipping cocktails, and learning to tell the difference between a shiraz and a merlot, beer has taken a backseat, with its reputation tarnished by drunken loutish behaviour. But now there’s a new breed of beer! Not only does it taste great, but it’s ethical, biodynamic and set to make waves in the drinks industry.

Brewed exclusively on the night of a full moon and using fresh spring water, Vollmond lager is much more than your average drink. Produced in line with biodynamic principles, it encompasses the passion and principles of a method of farming and production that is not simply a label, but a way of life

Whilst most consumers are now aware of the benefits of organic food and drink, biodynamic produce takes things to the next level and is set to be the new trend in ethical buying. Organic produce is clearly better for the environment and the world around us than non-organic, but there are still fuzzy areas - could organic chickens still be kept in battery farms? Organic arable farms can still have huge carbon footprints!

This is not the case with Biodynamic farming which prides itself on its principles and is founded on a holistic and spiritual understanding of nature and the human being:

Vollmond lager for example is not only brewed in harmony with the lunar cycle, but uses barley grown in the Engadin region of Switzerland. At 5,250 feet, it is the highest crop growing region in Europe resulting in the barley maturing a lot slower, yielding a much richer flavour. Furthermore at this altitude no chemicals are needed, as pests cannot live this high.

The water used in Vollmond lager comes from the brewery’s own natural spring, found high in the Swiss Alpstein Mountains. The water is 100% pure and added to the mix untainted, and untreated, from the ground as nature intended.

Vollmond has received the BIO award, which is the highest organic certification award in Switzerland. Indeed, the locals are so certain of the beer’s health giving properties that women buy cosmetic products made from it, and even swim in it!

Furthermore, Suisse Connection (the owners of the Vollmond brand in the UK) donate a percentage of profits to the British Legion each year.

If drinking ethically isn’t enough to tempt you to try Vollmond, the taste certainly should be. The unique growing and brewing process gives the beer a bitter sweet palate and long bitter finish, the perfect accompaniment to a long spring or summer day.
