Celebrities celebrate brewery relaunch

8th May 2008 Print
Last week saw the re-launch of WEST brewery, bar and restaurant at Glasgow Green. German brewery owner Petra Wetzel and Curry King Charan Gill, have rescued the brewery from the brink of administration.

The re-launch party at WEST was attended by a host of celebrities, including Suzie McGuire, Michelle McManus, Glasgow City Council leader Steven Purcell and German Consul Mrs Beate Bidenbach, amongst some 350 guests intent on celebrating the dramatic reversal in fortunes of the unique brewery which, under new ownership, has gone from strength to strength.

Addressing the assembled guests, Ms Wetzel said, “The last few months have been somewhat challenging for us here at WEST, but we’re back with a vengeance and the team here are absolutely determined to make sure that WEST finally gets recognised for brewing the best beer in Scotland, if not Britain, and for our fantastic venue to become an integral part of the bar and restaurant scene, renowned not just for its beer, but also its food, fabulous live entertainment, atmosphere and service.

“We have really exciting times ahead of us at the moment – big plans for the brewery. We have just secured distribution of our beers to a whole raft of major outlets and in a couple of months we’ll be bottling our beer, so don’t forget your trolley when you trawl round Tesco!”

Styling itself on the beers of Bavaria, WEST’s products are the only beers in the UK that meet the Reinheitsgebot; German legislation which ensures only the finest, purest beer is deemed fit for consumption.
